Humvee EV
conversion.

A military Humvee. Tesla Model S Plaid components. A custom steel chassis taking shape in Jeff Kotulak’s workshop.

From the workshop

The frame is real.

These original workshop photographs show the chassis during fabrication: rectangular steel rails, changes in rail height, mounting provisions and the two centre X-braces. They document work in progress, before the finished vehicle’s assembly and testing.

The project

Building around
a different drivetrain.

The Humvee conversion brings chassis fabrication, battery packaging and Tesla Plaid drivetrain integration into one project. Its body and intended use set the packaging problem; the donor components do not determine the chassis layout on their own.

The frame has to provide space for the battery and running gear while leaving room for body mounting, steering, cooling, wiring and later service. Those interfaces are developed together as the build progresses.

What the photographs show

The current frame uses two centre X-braces between the main rails. The photographs make the arrangement visible, including the junctions, crossmembers and changes in rail height. The frame is still part of an active fabrication process.

What happens next

The remaining project work includes completing the agreed mechanical and electrical integration, body fitment and the finished vehicle’s checks and testing. Future journal updates will document those stages as they happen.

Power and performance

The build uses Tesla Model S Plaid hardware. Where the series refers to 1,020 hp, that is the donor drivetrain’s rated system output. Completed Humvee output, driving range and charging performance have not been verified.

For owners & builders

Your vehicle.
Your scope.

The Humvee documents one project-specific chassis. A different classic truck or SUV needs its own fitment review, component plan and installation scope.
